the error reporting in p is ok i guess, but it has to be even better in vista. in vista you should have to be forced to send the error report. you should have two options for sending it. (send now or send later) you should also get more details on the issue if possible. another good idea would be to make it so that the error reports would be sent to microsoft before the pc shuts down or restarts. i think the issue should also have more imput on it. there should be a comments box or something that would allow the user to say what they were doing and stuff when the issue happened and stuff.

error reporting seggestions
It would be a good idea - I think you can already provide more feedback if a bug report analyst from Microsoft requests it using the Problem Reports and Solutions in the Control Panel.

oh yea. having an error reporting thing in the control panel would be nice too. being to send saved error reports that you said you wanted to send later. it should also let you creat your own custom error reports aswell. and having advanced options for what applications and devices the error reporting services will work with and stuff.

What types of information can be collected?
The reporting service can collect Information about problems that interrupt you while you work and about errors that occur behind the scenes. It is important to diagnose errors that occur behind the scenes because these problems, if left unsolved, may cause additional problems such as performance or program failures.
Reports contain information that is most useful for diagnosing and solving the problem that has occurred, such as:
* Where the problem happened in the software or hardware * Type or severity of the problem, if known * Files that help describe the problem (typically system or report-generated files about software behavior before or after the problem occurred) * Basic software and hardware information (such as operating system version and language, device models and manufacturers, or memory and hard disk size)
Your Internet Protocol (IP) address is also collected because you are connecting to an online service (web service) to send error reports. However, your IP address is used only to generate aggregate statistics. It is not used to identify you or contact you.
Reports might unintentionally contain personal information, but this information is not used to identify you or contact you. For example, a report that contains a snapshot of memory might include your name, part of a document you were working on, or data that you recently submitted to a website. If you are concerned that a report might contain personal or confidential information, you should not send the report.
It says in the MS privacy statement for error reporting that it collects your IP address. You can be identified by that. It also says "For example, a report that contains a snapshot of memory might include your name, part of a document you were working on, or data that you recently submitted to a website."
I'm not inclined to send that kind of information, therefore I won't accept being forced to send it. Neither should anyone else be subjected to that without at least having the choice to decline.

oh, ok then. then maybe microsoft should make it so then they should be able to see more of the detail in the error report and i mean a lot more detail in the error report before they decide not to send it. yea i am being a bit harsh with making to it that they are foreced to send it. but maybe for advanced users there could just be an option that will let them choose if they want the error reports automaticly sent or if they will be notified of the event asking them if they want it to be sent or not. and stuff like that. they should also be able to be able to choose probram by program for that kinda option and stuff. i can go into more detail about my seggestion if you would like.

This sounds much more reasonable. My whole point being that if there is even a chance that one's personal information could be involved in an error report or anything else that send information, then the one(s) who that personal information is about deserve full disclosure and the choice to decline that information being sent. OTOH, I agree with the idea of getting MS as much information about errors and problems as possible so they can improve their software.
